Breast Lumps
Breast lumps are quite common and the vast majority are not cancerous. They may be caused by cysts, or high levels of estrogen at certain times of the monthly cycle; many tend to come and go.
Dietary Advice To Avoid Breast Lumps
A low fat diet can help lumpiness, while a diet high in fresh fruit and vegetables provides vitamins E and beta carotene, which alleviate the problem for some women. Low selenium levels can cause breast tenderness and lumpiness. Chicken, fish, seafood, rice and oats all contain this valuable nutrient. The painful swelling that sometimes precedes breast lumpiness can be relieved by taking four 500mg capsules of evening primrose oil and a vitamin B6 supplement (as directed), for two weeks before a period. Lumpiness may result from a food sensitivity, see a nutritional therapist.
Complimentary Natural Remedies For Breast Lumps
Essential oils can be helpful, but avoid massage, which may be too painful. Add 4 to 6 drops of German chamomile, lavender, or rose Otto to 600 ml lukewarm water and apply a warm compress using a clean piece of cotton. Afterwards, apply an aromatic treatment using 15 g unperfumed skin cream or 25 g carrier oil and 3 to 4 drops German or Roman chamomile, or 3 to 4 drops rose Otto, or 6 drops lavender. Use twice a day, or more often if required.
Marigold tea can be of use and raspberry leaf tea can help rebalance hormone levels. Take as other teas, but not during pregnancy.
Check breasts regularly and see your GP if you notice any unexplained lumps, tender spots, discharge, or changes to shape, colour or appearance of either your breasts or nipples.
