Cellulite
Most doctors say that cellulite is simply fat. Some alternative therapists believe the dimpled ‘orange peel’ flesh that appears mostly on the thighs and upper arms is caused by a buildup of toxins in the body. Although cellulite can be a problem for slim women, it occurs mostly in women who are overweight or don’t exercise very much, and in frequent dieters who lose and gain weight quickly. The most effective way of dealing with it is to exercise regularly, eat sensibly and perhaps have regular manual lymphatic drainage massage from a qualified professional.
Dietary Advice To Avoid Cellulite
A low-fat, high-fiber diet with wholegrain foods, fresh fruit and vegetables provides fiber which protects against ‘internal pollution’. Avoid cakes, puddings, chocolates and processed foods which are high in salt and hidden fats but low on nutrients. Salt, cigarettes, caffeine and alcohol also encourage toxicity. Drink lots of still mineral water and set aside one day a month when you drink only water, or fruit or vegetable juice, to detox the body. An antioxidant supplement will help protect against internal pollution.
Complimentary Natural Remedies For Cellulite
Cypress, lemon or juniper berry essential oils are believed to stimulate the lymphatic system. Add 10 drops juniper berry and 5 drops lemon essential oils to 25 ml grapeseed or sweet almond oil, and massage into the affected area two or three times a week.
Nettle tea helps reduce fluid retention. Use 1 to 3 tsp of the dried herb per cup, and drink three times a day during your cleansing days.
