Natural Remedies For Fainting

Fainting

Feeling faint is most commonly caused by a temporary lack of blood, or oxygen, to the brain. It can occur in a hot, cramped atmosphere, standing in one position for too long, when you are frightened, shocked, or in overwhelming pain, or because of lack of food. Fainting is accompanied by a low blood pressure. It can also result from a low blood sugar or be a symptom of a more serious problem, so it is best to have a medical check-up. When someone faints, or feels faint, ask them to sit down with their head between their knees to help the blood flow to the brain. If they are lying down, lift their feet slightly above the level of their head. If unconscious, lie them on one side with their head back to clear the airway. Place their upper hand under their cheek and bend their upper leg onto the floor for support. Call an ambulance.

Dietary Advice For Fainting

Eat little and often to keep your blood sugar level up. Eat lots of complex carbohydrates such as wholemeal bread, pasta and oats to sustain your energy levels and avoid highly refined foods which cause peaks and dips in blood sugar levels. Include dark, leafy green vegetables, for iron, in a fresh, varied wholefood diet. Snack on dried fruits, unsalted nuts, apples and grapes to keep your blood sugar level up.

Complimentary Remedies For Fainting

Lavender, peppermint and rosemary essential oils are traditional remedies for someone who feels faint. Sniff the oil directly from the bottle, or put a few drops on a tissue and inhale. Or use in a massage, which will also boost circulation.

Moisten the lips of someone who has fainted with a few drops of Rescue Remedy and dab on the pulse points at the wrists. If you are prone to fainting, constitutional treatment from a homeopath, or a meditation session, can have a normalizing effect on the body. Regular, gentle exercise such as yoga, or tai chi is also important. Other therapies such as herbalism and osteopathy may be of benefit.
