Fever
The normal body temperature is around 37°C /98.4°F. A higher temperature indicates that the body may be trying to fight infection. An increase in temperature is one way in which the body tries to conquer an infection, so it is an ally to good health, not a cause for alarm. However, in babies and toddlers the temperature can rise very quickly and dramatically, and if exceptionally high may trigger febrile convulsions and even a coma. It is therefore important to cool a very feverish child. The best way to do this is to strip him down to his nappy or pants, cover him with a sheet and open a window, keeping him out of draughts. Make sure he gets plenty of rest. If the temperature rises above 103°F seek urgent medical help.
Dietary Advice For Fever
Drink plenty of fluids -mainly water and diluted fruit juices – to keep the body hydrated. If a child has a fever, encourage him to take frequent small sips of fluid to prevent dehydration. The appetite is often poor during a fever. This is normal, so don’t worry for a day or two. Where there is a desire for food, stick to cooling fruit such as watermelon, mango or grapes. For more substantial nourishment, choose chicken or vegetable soup.
Complimentary Remedies For Fever
Herbal teas can help bring down a temperature by encouraging sweating and increasing the elimination of toxins through the skin. Try peppermint tea, elderflower, thyme or yarrow. Put 15 g dried herb (35 g fresh) into a teapot, add 600 ml boiling water and leave to infuse for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 1 cup 3 times a day.
If you can manage a bath, add 8 drops of either lavender, lemon, tea tree or juniper berry oil to tepid water. However, make sure that you leave the door of the bathroom unlocked and have someone nearby in case you feel faint. With toddlers and babies use only 3 drops lavender. A cold compress of the same aromatic water can be applied to the forehead and refreshed each time it reaches body temperature. It can also help to spray the patient’s bedding with a plant spray filled with cool water and a few drops of lavender oil. If pregnant avoid juniper berry oil.

Thanks for the info. Peppermint tea has worked for me. I’ll try elderflower also if I need to in future.
