Dementia
A progressive decline of mental abilities which result in the restriction of a person’s daily functioning is a condition known as dementia. A direct result of the way dementia affected the brain is when memory, language, orientation or judgment deteriorate. Various diseases and conditions include Alzheimer’s disease, strokes, head injuries and other neurodegenerative conditions can affect the brain which can lead to dementia.
Dementia is possible at any age, depending on the cause, although the risk of developing dementia increases with age and is most commonly seen in the elderly.
